Course Outline:

In this semester course, students will learn how individuals, groups and institutions work to promote social justice and human rights. Through engaging discussions and activities, ākonga will learn about the efforts to create a fair and just society, understand the challenges faced, and discover how they can make a positive impact in their community and beyond.

Students will plan and carry out a social action, working in the community to address an issue or concern of their choosing.

Students will develop skills such as research, communication, collaboration empathy and ethical understanding and advocacy.

This course is complimented by the Year 11 Anthropology - Cultural and Social Identities course.

 

Where Does It Lead:

Senior Social Studies 201 and 301, tertiary study options such as Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Human Services, Education, Māori and Indigenous Studies, Media and Communication, Law and Legal Studies, Political Science and International Relations, Psychology, Global Studies and Sociology.
