Open Entry - However previous workshop experience is highly recommended.   

 

 

Course Outline:
  • Health and safety (demonstrating safe practices in the workshop)
  • Accuracy, precision, marking out (basic measurements) and literacy
  • Planning, research, evaluating product, quality finishing
  • Evaluating individual performance
  • using hand tools, equipment and machinery
  • preparing cutting lists and orthographic drawings

This course is assessed through Wood Trades WDC Unit Standards.  The projects in the course are around building on skills from Level 2, with a focus on fine art and producing a well-designed piece of furniture that incorporates several different techniques, and materials.  A variety of skills that include curving and shaping timber through lamination and jig making with the option of students being able to design parts of the furniture themselves.
