Course Outline:

This course gives students insight into creating purposeful digital designs. We make solutions using either visual media or programming code, depending on the situation and the problem. Be creative in a Digital World!

Students will develop knowledge and skills in:

  • Choosing software with the required features and techniques for the task at hand to make creation easier
  • Knowing what design principles are and how to use them to enhance designs
  • Programming Concepts, for code that makes design interactive and responsive to user input
  • Being able to explain the purpose of the design and find the user requirements
  • Explore basic Computer Science concepts, to understand how things work under the hood

Students will be able to:

  • Create beautiful designs that tell a purposeful story, often using pictures or movement, with minimal words
  • Write program solutions or create interactive models of situations to solve or explore real-world problems
  • Use technological words in the correct context to explain design decisions
  • Show insight into technological failures and suggest improvements

We use a project-based approach to assessment and learning. This gives students background so they can make informed choices in what they make. Students also have the literacy skills to talk about the how and the why of their own creations.

Assessment:

Assessment is by means of practical and written projects

Where Does It Lead:

Junior Digital Technologies Computational-Thinking, or Junior Digital Technologies Electronics.
