Entry Recommendations:

Students are expected to have studied BUS201, or ACC201, or ECO201 however all students are welcome to discuss their suitability with Ms Horgan.

Course Outline:

Students will cover the following key areas over the course of the year. 

  • Marketing Strategy and Planning 
  • Future Proofing Strategies for Businesses 
  • Innovation in Value Chains 
  • Quality Controls 
  • Change Management 
  • Intellectual Property 

Students will use the NZ footwear brand Allbirds as a case study to apply these areas to for a context and go beyond the brand and products to explore the suppliers, systems and structures that exist behind the product.  We will visit Lake Hawea Farm who supplies the merino wool for Allbirds and students will learn about B Corp, Toitū and SPCA certifications as well as innovation with regenerative business practices and the impact they are increasingly having in the future of business and enterprise.   

This course is designed to provide our students with a mindset for the future of business and the sustainability of it in a global marketplace that is subject to constant change.   

The course combines one Business Studies and two Agribusiness internal standards.  The external exam at the end of the year is Business Studies.  All standards apply to the UE Business entrance requirements.

Assessment:

There are 4 external credits and 14 internal credits
