Course Outline:

In this course students design and make a range of products out of a variety of materials. They identify a need or opportunity and explore ideas that can resolve the issue.

They will learn how to operate within boundaries and specifications. There is an emphasis on testing and trialling ideas where students are encouraged to take risks.

The focus will be to refine skills for:

  • Health and safety (demonstrating safe practices in the workshop)
  • Accuracy, precision, marking out (basic measurements) and literacy
  • Planning, research, evaluating product, quality finishing
  • Evaluating individual performance
  • using hand tools, equipment and machinery
  • preparing cutting lists and orthographic drawings

This course establishes workshop practices such as:

  • collaboration
  • following strict safety codes of practice
  • independence

 

There is a major practical component to this course. However, in each project, students will be required to complete associated theory and a laptop is required.

 

Assessment:

Students will be assessed in the following components: 

  • Functional Modelling
  • Workshop practices (practical and safety)
