Completed a minimum of 1 semester of Year 11 Wood or Metal, or by negotiation with the Assistant HOLA.

Course Outline:

This course offers two pathways and two project options

Option 1: Achievement Standard based University approved course,

Re-designing the outdoor cooker or using the Technological process to design, test, plan and build an Electric go-kart to be raced at the Evolocity reginal finals at the end of 2026.

Option 2: A mostly practical Unit Standard based course (trades)

Constructing the outdoor cooker or designing an electric go-kart to be raced at Evolocity Canterbury reginal Finals at the end of this 2026.

Where Does It Lead:

MTE303 – Assessed using either Unit Standards or University approved Achievement Standards.  Engineering and Product design degrees.

It can also leads to courses in material related trades and related employment opportunities in the engineering industry e.g., Fitter, turner, welder, engineer, blacksmith, sheet metal fabricator, plastic engineering, auto motive industry, heave diesel, farm machinery.
