Course Outline:

English is not compulsory at Year 12; however, it is strongly recommended.

This course is based around texts that take the reader on the hero’s journey as their moral codes are challenged. We explore the blurred lines between good and evil. What makes someone a hero? What motivates a villain? By analysing complex characters and the choices they make in extreme situations, students will reflect on their own beliefs and assumptions.

There will be a certain amount of flexibility in the course structure depending on your interests as we pull from a variety of both external and internal English Achievement Standards.

As a guide please click here to see the standards that were included in the 2024 course. These can potentially change in 2026.

Please note that English is currently undergoing a national curriculum rewrite. This course is subject to change.

Assessment:

This course is made up of internal and external achievement standards. Students are expected to sit the external (examination) Achievement Standards. Assessments in this course may change to reflect updates in the new English curriculum.
