Previous experience in Materials Technology courses recommended. 

Course Outline:
  • Health and safety (demonstrating safe practices in the workshop)
  • Accuracy, precision, marking out (basic measurements) and literacy
  • Planning, research, evaluating product, quality finishing
  • Evaluating individual performance
  • using hand tools, equipment and machinery
  • preparing cutting lists and orthographic drawings
  • In this semester course students will learn about machinery and equipment through a practical project along with ongoing written evidence.

    A beautiful table lamp will be constructed using a variety of engineering skills and techniques.

    The project involves working on the engineering lathe and milling machine and also an array of processes using hand tools

Where Does It Lead:

Materials Technology (Hard Materials) Courses, MTE203 assessed with either Unit Standards or University approved Achievement Standards.

This course leads to university and polytechnic courses, Metal-based trade industries and metal-related employment opportunities such as automotive industry, heavy vehicle industry, panel repair and automotive engineering.
