Course Outline:

History Events and People That Have Rocked our World covers important individuals, groups and events that have shaped Aotearoa New Zealand and the world.

Content could include:

The Plague.

Crime: Jack the Ripper and the whitechapel murders. The Parker Hulme Murder.

Apartheid in South Africa.

Famous and infamous kiwis: Te Puea Hērangi, Charles Upham, Archibald McIndoe, Whina Cooper, Ettie Rout, Nancy Wake, Minnie Dean.

The rise and fall of the Berlin Wall.

Gulags and Great Escapes.

Black Civil Rights in the USA.

 

Beatlemania hits New Zealand.

 

Disasters: Sinking of the Titanic, the Wahine disaster, Chernobyl, Mt Erebus air crash.

Cults: Charles Manson and the Manson family, Waco.

Prohibition, gangsters and the six o’clock swill.

Students who are able to manage their time effectively, complete regular class and homework will be suited to this course.

 

This course can be taken in combination with any other Year 11 History semester courses.
