Course Outline:

Part 2 – This is the second semester. Each semester covers different content, and taking both is strongly recommended, especially if you plan to continue to Level 2 DVC.

 Designing for People and Place

In Semester B, you’ll take your design skills further in an exciting spatial design project. Whether you're designing a café, pavilion, pop-up gallery, or interior space, you’ll explore how architecture can shape human experience.

You will:

  • Learn how to design with mood, atmosphere, and function in mind
  • Develop refined sketching and rendering techniques
  • Use models, drawing conventions and CAD to communicate your ideas
  • Explore how design responds to user needs and environment

This course builds on Semester A but can also be taken as a stand-alone. It’s ideal for students heading into Level 2 DVC or any creative and built environment pathway.

Assessment:

Assessment will be through project-based work, completed throughout the semesters.

Where Does It Lead:

From NCEA Level 2 & 3 to polytech and university – DVC opens doors.
If you’re aiming for a career in a creative or technical field, this is the subject for you. DVC leads to exciting pathways like Architecture, Engineering, Industrial Design, Landscape and Interior Design, Graphic/Web Design, Game Design, Animation, Product Design, CAD, Media Graphics, Mechanical Drawing, and Quantity Surveying.
