Entry Recommendations:

Open entry course for students who do not meet the entry recommendations for ENC301, ENG301, ENF301, ENS001, ENR001 or ENW301.

Course Outline:

This course is designed to strengthen literacy skills and build confidence in communication across a range of real-world and academic contexts. It supports learners working towards NCEA by focusing on practical reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and presenting. 

 Clear and effective communication is at the heart of this course—skills that are not only essential for success at school, but also highly valued in the workplace. Whether it's writing professional emails, reading for understanding, interpreting everyday texts, engaging with more complex material, or speaking confidently in discussions, ENG302 equips learners with the tools needed for life beyond school. 

 Assessment is entirely internal and includes a combination of Unit Standards and Achievement Standards. 

Please note that English is currently undergoing a national curriculum rewrite. This course is subject to change.
