Course Outline:

English is not compulsory at Year 12; however, it is strongly recommended.

This course is designed for students who enjoy engaging with a wide range of texts and want to strengthen their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. You will read and view novels, short stories, poetry, film, and non-fiction, with a focus on how language and visual techniques are used to explore ideas, shape meaning, and impact audiences.

In addition to text analysis, a key component of ENG201 is developing your own writing through a portfolio that includes both creative and formal pieces. This internally assessed portfolio is worth six University Entrance Literacy Writing credits and allows you to experiment with voice, structure, and style.

ENG201 helps you become a confident, thoughtful communicator and reader. It provides a strong foundation in English for students preparing for further study in Year 13 or seeking to meet University Entrance literacy requirements.

As a guide please click here to see the standards that were included in the 2024 course. These can potentially change in 2026.

Please note that English is currently undergoing a national curriculum rewrite. This course is subject to change.
