Course Outline:

English is not compulsory at Year 12; however, it is strongly recommended.

This course explores the nature of war—both as a global event and a personal experience. With a focus on World War I and II, students will examine themes such as power, morality, identity, and the struggle between good and evil. Texts include film, fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and short stories. The Holocaust will be explored through literature, with attention to moral and ethical decision-making in times of crisis.

Students will also explore historic texts that reflect on war across eras, connecting past and present views of conflict. Independent inquiries allow for personal exploration into topics like the Vietnam War, terrorism, or the Final Solution.

ENC201 fosters empathy, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of how war shapes humanity through the stories we tell.
