Course Outline:

Do you want to build confidence and improve your communication skills? 
Do you enjoy working with others to create exciting performances? 

Drama is an energetic, creative, and inclusive course where you’ll get the chance to perform in a variety of styles and genres. You'll gain practical skills through improvisation, acting, and script work. This course also includes a professional theatre visit and an exclusive backstage tour at the Court Theatre – a fantastic chance to see the magic behind the scenes! 

Active participation in all activities is expected. 

Skills we learn: 

  • Improvisation 
  • Vocal and physical performance techniques 
  • Empathy – understanding different characters and viewpoints 
  • Critical thinking and evaluation skills 
Assessment:

Practical assessments throughout the semester, including: 

  • Creating your own scripts and ideas 
  • Developing practical performance skills (improvisation, vocal and physical work) 
  • Understanding different styles of theatre (Realistic, Theatre Aotearoa)  
  • Performing short scenes from a range of scripts 
Where Does It Lead:

Drama builds confidence, teamwork and critical thinking – skills that will help you in all areas of life. It also sets you up for Drama in Year 10 through to Year 13, including scholarship-level study. Drama is a University Entrance subject.
