Entry Recommendations:

Students must have completed Year 10 or 11 Design and Visual Communication. Or by invitation from the HOLA.

Course Outline:

Architectural Design | Spatial Thinking | Creative Solutions

Design with depth. Communicate with clarity.

In Level 2 DVC, you’ll take on more complex design challenges with a strong focus on architectural and spatial design. You’ll explore how people interact with space and how to communicate your ideas visually and effectively, just like a professional architect or designer.

You will:

  • Develop a design brief in response to a real or imagined client
  • Explore how architecture reflects values, culture, and environment
  • Use advanced ideation, sketching, rendering, and modelling techniques
  • Apply industry drawing standards, including orthographic and 3D projections
  • Use CAD software to model and present your final design
  • Communicate a design narrative through visuals and annotation

DVC Scholarship Pathway

The DVC Scholarship program offers extension opportunities for creative, independent thinkers. You’ll:

  • Receive mentoring and feedback to develop a scholarship folio
  • Be supported to enter the NZQA DVC Scholarship assessment in Year 13 – or prepare early in Year 12
