Entry Recommendations:

It is highly recommended that student have completed the semester one course.

This course focuses on extending musical understanding through both group and solo performance within a performance context. Developing both composition and arranging skills, research analysis of a music genre, and developing theoretical understanding and aural skills.

To be successful in this course you students are strongly advised to be receiving tutored instrument or voice lessons alongside their Music course.  These can often be provided through our itinerant music scheme - for more information see the Music department.

Course Outline:

 

Units include:

  • Performance – students will be required to perform both individual and group pieces within a performance context.
  • Composition/Arranging – Techniques will be covered, and ideas explored using composition devices and music software to explore ideas in original music in a variety of settings.
  • Musical Knowledge – Elements of music theory and harmony will be studied alongside set music pieces covering a range of styles.
  • Aural/Listening Skills – Learning how to identity elements of music through focussed listening.

  • Assignment-based assessment
Where Does It Lead:

Students who wish to take music at Year 11 are encouraged to take both music options.  This course prepares students for music at Year 11.
