Entry Recommendations:

Completion of any Digital Technologies courses at year 11.  Confidence in a wide range of common software may apply by negotiation with the Asst HOLA Design Technology.

 

Course Outline:

This course is designed for students who want to further develop their programming skills by developing a useful database outcome. Students will:

  • extend their grasp of modular program design, creation and testing.
  • learn how to create a database and manipulate data in it using a computer program. 
  • develop an understanding of a range of computer science concepts.

Topics will include:

  • Modular programming with methods and functions
  • Relational databases
  • Iterative (on-going) process to develop a digital outcome
  • Use of Management Tools

Skills:

  • Planning, documenting and creating modular computer programs
  • Using indexed data structures such as lists
  • Testing procedures
  • Relational database design and development
  • Problem solving through the technological design process

It is expected that students will engage with their projects beyond class time.
