Open Entry.  However, a good level of literacy is required.

Note: Students selecting Film Production 301 or Broadcast Production 301 are unable to do this course due to a clash of achievement standards.

Course Outline:

Students in this course will be responsible for the planning, production & management of a print magazine of their design. This will involve the publication of several issues.  Students will need to have a passion for journalism and design, be self-starters and have strong collaboration skills. This course will help develop transferrable skills such as communication, time-management, people management and problem-solving.

Typical areas of learning will include:

  • Magazine conception & pitching
  • Article writing
  • Layout & design
  • Marketing
  • Editing
  • Reviewing
  • Interviewing

There will also be an opportunity for students to visit ARA New Zealand Broadcasting School to discuss the journalism stream.

 

Assessment:

19 NCEA Level 3 credits are available through 15 internal credits and 4 external credits. (optional)

ARA New Zealand Broadcasting School; Journalism; Writing; Editing; Publishing or other University Media/Film programmes.  Careers in marketing, advertising & public relations.
