Course Outline:

Students will complete this course looking at how Māori literature, written in English, explores the history and literature of a Māori world view in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We will work together to select the texts that we study and the tikanga that will guide our learning time.

There are several opportunities for students to complete tasks based on their choice of Māori literature, written in English.
  

The key skills covered in this programme are:

  • literature text studies
  • research skills
  • oral text skills
  • close reading
  • connections between texts

 

Students will be expected to complete an independent reading programme as part of this and all other English courses.

This course is an Option B course, completing the same skills as Sport and Exploration, and Myths and Legends but looking at literature through the study of Māori literature, written in English. All Year 11 students must select one course from Option A and one course from Option B to complete their English studies.

 

Assessment:

There is one large assessment and three Year 11 Diploma assessments in this course.
