Entry Recommendations:

Students should discuss their suitability with the HOD Māori.  No prior experience of performing arts, or knowledge of Māori language needed.

Course Outline:

Waihora taniwha, Waihora moana! Ka tuku te mihi maioha ki a koutou, a warm greeting to you all.

This course gives students an opportunity to experience the different aspects of Kapahaka, Māori Performing Arts. Students will be able to learn the history of the local area, and the origins of Māori Performing Arts through mōteatea, waiata, poi, haka, and waiata ā-ringa.

Assessment:

Students can choose to be enrolled in up to 18 internal credits depending on discussions with the teacher, the student's interest and their ability.  Students can choose to participate in this course for the purpose of learning about Māori Performing Arts and not be enrolled in any NCEA standards.

All standards offered are Unit Standards that have Achieved, Merit and Excellence grades.  This is not a University approved subject. 

 

Where Does It Lead:

Students can enrol in this course more than once to enhance their knowledge and skills.  It may be studied in Year 11, 12 and 13.
