Entry Recommendations:

Students are expected to have completed Year 11 French or discuss their suitability with TIC French.

 

Course Outline:

Topics will be chosen according to student interest. 

The course aims to increase students' confidence in speaking French in everyday situations. Students have access to a variety of departmental resources – French films, Information and Communication Technologies and French magazines.

Students will learn about other French speaking countries throughout the world, increasing appreciation of different cultures. They will focus on giving and responding to advice and opinions relating to topical discussions. They will be encouraged to read a wide variety of literary media. A French film study will also be part of the course.  Work is based on Level 7 and 8 of the New Zealand Learning Languages Curriculum.

The four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking will be assessed.

Where Does It Lead:

French 301, further study at polytechnic or university; knowledge of a foreign language is essential for some overseas scholarships; increased appreciation of foreign travel; employment in the tourism industry. French language students have an advantage in careers demanding accuracy e.g. computer work, and in their ability to think clearly and write precisely.
