Entry Recommendations:

Open Entry.  However, students do need to have a genuine interest in film-making & strong literacy skills, as this is a hands-on intensive course that requires a commitment outside of normal class time.

FPR301 students cannot enter into Broadcast Production BPR301 or Print Production PPR301 due to a clash of achievement standards.

 

Course Outline:

In general, this course gives practical and theoretical understanding of film-making. Students are encouraged to watch films and identify the decisions made by professional directors, so that they can then apply this knowledge to their own film-making.

Media Studies Achievement Standards are offered, with students able to achieve a maximum of 16 credits from this course in four internal assessments.

The course will require students to:

  • Plan, film and edit one short film or documentary.
  • Demonstrate their competency in the use of the camera, editing software, lighting and sound by completing a range of smaller film projects.
  • Carefully study a range of films and be able to explain/analyse their meaning.
  • Be able to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Be able to demonstrate good time-management skills.

This course is intended for students who have a genuine interest in studying and producing film. Other courses that provide learning which can assist FPR301 are Drama, English and Social Sciences.
