$40.00. This covers the cost of some stationery materials and sewing notions, including interfacing fabrics and some practice materials. Materials and patterns for outcomes need to be purchased separately. There may be extra cost for entry in the Wearable Arts Show and other trips.

Open Entry (some knowledge of using mixed materials, a sewing machine, drawing and the design process would be helpful).

Course Outline:

This fashion and textiles course will empower you with the knowledge and skills for you to achieve your potential. You will gain transferable design skills and an understanding of the technical side of garment construction through testing. You can study related areas such as, material properties, pattern making and sustainability to expand your knowledge.

This course will give you the opportunity to:

  • Design and make an outcome for an event. This could include but is not limited to: School ball, job interview, horse riding competition, wearable arts, xmas or other themed party, holiday, kite day, sporting event or family celebration.
  • Be inspired and learn from people that have been involved in the textiles/event arts industry.
  • Develop confidence, skills and creativity with fabrics and other materials in the context of the event
  • Project manage an outcome from start to finish in time for an event chosen by you.
  • Research, design and test different ideas to meet a brief and complete a successful outcome.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the links between your work and global issues such as sustainability, environmental concerns, health and safety.

 

 

Where Does It Lead:
  • To the many jobs available in the technology industry.
  • Entry into appropriate courses at Polytechnics, University or a private fashion/textiles design school.
  • Including Dental Technology and Costume Design.
  • Opportunities exist to enter local or national competitions in design or construction to further build their portfolios.
