Open Entry. Students taking HIS101 will not be able to take this course due to a clash of Achievement Standards.
- Course Outline:
The course covers the causes and consequences of significant historical events in the sporting arena. History achievement standards are offered, with students able to achieve 3 internal and 2 external Achievement Standards.
Students will study a range of events from the following topics:
- Montreal Olympics, Munich Olympics
- Springbok Tour, Bodyline
- Billie Jean King, Jesse Owens, Zola Budd, Muhammad Ali
- Hillsborough Disaster
Students will also complete an independent research assignment from a major sports event.
The focus of the Year 11 (Level 1) Sports History is intended for students who have an interest in sports throughout the decades and looking at the impact they have had on society.
- Where Does It Lead:
NCEA Level 2 and 3 History and onto tertiary study. Students considering a career in any field which requires report writing, unbiased opinion, analytical and logical thought will find this subject beneficial.
Careers include; law, journalism, teaching and public relations.
