Course Outline:

Year 11 Social Studies students will learn how society has changed over time, with a focus on the last 100 years and youth culture. Students will develop skills such as research, analysis and working together. We will look at how our clothing, music, family structure and many other things have changed over time, and discuss why this has happened, and the significance of this change. There will be lots of practical activities such as interviewing older people, a fashion show and a meal where we eat popular foods from different decades.

There are no NCEA assessments in this course.

This course can be taken in combination with any other Year 11 Social Studies semester course.

Where Does It Lead:

Social Studies 201 and 301, Tertiary studies involving (but not limited to) social work, society and policy, sociology, social and community services and public relations.
