Note: Students selecting Film Production 301 are unable to do this course due to a clash of achievement standards.
- Course Outline:
Students in this course will be responsible for the planning, production & management of the school FM radio station, “THE LINC”. Students will need to have a passion for broadcasting, be self-starters and have strong collaboration skills. This course will help develop transferrable skills such as presenting, communicating, time-management, people management and problem-solving.
Typical areas of learning will include:
- Programme planning and production
- Live broadcasting
- Programme scheduling
- Station marketing
- Advertisement writing and production
- Stings, station ID production
- Broadcasting standards
- News reading
There will also be an opportunity for students to visit ARA New Zealand Broadcasting School. Students can also take advantage of an opportunity to gain real-world experience by being a guest on a weekend show on Christchurch’s community access radio station, Plains FM 96.9.
14 NCEA Level 3 credits are available through 2 internal (10 credits) and 1 external (4 credits). There is also the possibility for an optional Achievement Standard (3 credits) if required.
