Approx Cost:
$750.00 paid in three $300.00 instalments at the start of Terms 1, 2 and 3. The cost of suitable personal clothing must be met by the students.

Entry Recommendations:

Open. A genuine interest and prior experience in outdoor pursuits is an advantage. Due to the risks involved in the course a high standard of personal responsibility is required. Students will also require suitable outdoor clothing to ensure their safety when participating in activities. A gear list is provided prior to the course.

There is a limited number of places in this course due to health and safety requirements. Therefore a selection day will occur on the 13th November (attendance is mandatory), prior participation in OED courses and course selection priority will also be considered to finalise the class. 

 

Course Outline:

There are Unit Standards in kayaking, ski/snowboard, rock climbing and tramping.

Students will attend trips and overnight camps that result in absences from other subjects. Attending these trips and overnight camps is a required part of assessment to gain credits during this course. Students are expected to catch up on all missed work.

Where Does It Lead:

This course can lead to 303OED depending on the performance in this course. This course can be valuable in occupations where self-confidence, commitment and good communication skills are needed and can lead into the adventure tourism industry and to tertiary courses in outdoor pursuits.
