Approx Cost:
$180 paid in three instalments. The cost of suitable personal clothing must be met by the students.

Entry Requirements:

Open. A genuine interest and prior experience in outdoor pursuits is an advantage.  Due to the activities involved a high standard of personal responsibility is required.  A gear list is provided prior to the course. A mountain bike will be needed.

There is a limited number of places in this course. There will be a selection process held in Term 4. Students will be informed of the process in Term 4.

Course Outline:

This is an introductory course, designed so students are not taken out of any of their other classes.  The practical sessions will be done within school time.  There are no full day trips or overnight trips.  Unit Standards are offered in kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and orienteering. Several Achievement Standards will also be done to do with performance and behaviour in the outdoors.

Where Does It Lead:

The course will be valuable for students who want to improve self-confidence and communication skills.  It leads directly into Outdoor Education in Year 12, where some of the topics are explored further and new ones introduced.  The Year 12 and 13 courses have overnight trips.
