Entry Recommendations:

Students are expected to have at least 12 credits from MSM201, MAC201 or the MAT201 courses. Those wishing to enter from MAT201 must also have at least an Achieved in AS91267 (Probability). Other students can discuss their suitability with the HOLA.

NB: Students may choose to enter both MSM301 and MAC301, but they cannot enter both MSM301 and MAT301 due to overlapping standards.

Course Outline:

The course involves use and interpretation of data through modelling and statistical processes, and includes the analysis of the effectiveness of models and measures (including the use of probability).

NB: The emphasis is on application to practical problems and the use of graphical calculators and computers is required.

Where Does It Lead:

Tertiary study in the social sciences, biological sciences, health sciences and in any discipline where the handling of statistical or numerical data is important. Many University courses now prefer students to have Level 3 Statistics.
