Entry Recommendations:

Students need at least 12 credits in NCEA Level 1 Materials Technology or by negotiation with the HOD. Class maximum 24.

Course Outline:

The course will give a wide and varied experience in fabrication, fitting and turning, welding and brazing.  Through a single project the class will develop their problem-solving skills, their personal management and teamwork skills and further refine manufacturing and fitting skills using a range of materials.  Good safe working practices will be developed alongside striving for success in applying skills to their work.  A MIG welding block course will be available for a limited number of students.

Where Does It Lead:

Year 13 Materials Technology Advanced, Polytechnic courses in metal-related trades and related employment opportunities in the engineering industry e.g. Fitter, Turner, Welder, Engineer, Blacksmith, Sheet Metal Fabricator, Plastic Engineering, etc.
