Entry Recommendations:

Students are expected to have  Achievement or higher in a minimum of 12 credits from any of the 201 Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Agriculture and Horticulture courses or alternatively students can discuss their suitability with the HOLA..

Course Outline:

This course is intended for students with an interest in Earth and Space Science who wish to be able to study Level 3 Science along with Level 3 Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

Students will study the following topics:

  • Oceanography.
  • Atmospheric Science.
  • Geology & Geological dating.
  • Astronomy.
  • Practical investigation skills.

 

Students will undertake a mixture of research and investigation based internal assessments during the year.  They will also sit two external exams at the end of the year.

Where Does It Lead:

University and Polytechnic. After completing a successful Astronomy or Geological Science, Earth and Space Science course, students will be suitable for geology, geography, agriculture and horticulture, town planning, engineering (environmental/geological) environment studies or any occupation where a basic knowledge of science is required.

Connections are also made to the growing Christchurch aerospace community.
