- Course Outline:
Students are expected to perform all practical assessments to an audience of peers and/or wider school audience.
This course is based around Level 3 of the National Curriculum. The range of units that may be offered are:
- Developing Ideas.
Students use elements and conventions to devise a plot based on contemporary stories.
- Developing Practical Knowledge.
Students learn basic stage and body awareness and ways to communicate a character using voice, body, movement and use of space.
- Communication and Interpreting in Drama.
Students learn about character work and tandem storytelling using NZ Theatre extracts.
- Understanding Drama in Context.
Students are introduced to ‘Commedia dell’ Arte’ characters and situations and explore use of mask and physical comedy.
Written reflections for each unit form a part of the overall result in this course.
- Where Does It Lead:
Students learn to work with others, develop critical and creative thinking skills while developing performance and communication skills in a range of dramatic contexts. Students who gain an ‘achieved at the level’ are able to continue with Year 10 Drama.
