Course Outline:

This is a practical introductory half-year course during which students will develop an understanding of cultural practices in Asia through learning the basics of Japanese and Mandarin Language.  Students will develop basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills but not to the depth a full year language course would offer. The course is divided into 2 sections, a 10 week focus on Japan and a 10 week focus on China.

  • Family and Pets.                                                              
  • Food and Drink.                                                              
  • Shopping.
  • Calligraphy.
  • Anime and Manga.
  • Japanese and Chinese Cuisine.  
  • Annual Festivals and Events.

Where Does It Lead:

This course provides a practical and fun introduction to learn about Asian culture. This course would also be suitable for students who have had the opportunity to learn Asian languages at primary school while maintaining a pathway into Year 10 Asian language programmes.
