Course Outline:

This is the first semester of a full year course and is essential for students considering Photography, Design, Sculpture, Painting or Printmaking in Years 12 or 13. This course runs as a seamless year’s work that allows students to develop their aesthetic persona. Whilst students may take just the first semester of this course dealing with drawing, Sculpture and Printmaking, those wishing to engage in Level 2 visual arts should take both semester courses.

Although there are structured learning tasks that introduce techniques and established artistic practice, students get to develop their own ideas and subject matter to produce their own artwork in a range of Visual arts fields. Studies involve the disciplines of drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.  Students learn basic creative processes that allow them to develop their artistic capabilities.

There are no internal NCEA assessments in this semester.

Where Does It Lead:
  • Specialist Art courses in Years 12 and 13. Y11 Visual Arts studies give students further opportunities in a wide range of creative enterprises, including photography, animation, architecture, film and design.
