Course Outline:

The NCEA Level 1 Art course is a combination of externally moderated folio assessment and internally marked assessments.

This course includes the following Achievement Standards:

1.1    Demonstrate understanding of artworks from cultural contexts using art terminology, 4 credits.

1.3    Use drawing conventions to develop work in more than one field of practice, 6 credits.

1.4    Produce a body of work informed by established practice, which develops ideas, using a range of media, 12 credits (external folio).

The ART101 course runs as a seamless year’s work, involving the disciplines of drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.  Students learn basic creative processes that allow them to develop their artistic capabilities.

Where Does It Lead:

Specialist Art courses in Years 12 and 13. Art also opens up opportunities in a huge range of creative enterprises, including photography, animation, architecture, film and design.
